Plastic Hario V60 02: the useful baseline
The clear VD-02T is the easiest recommendation for a first manual filter setup. Hario specifies a size-02 cone for one to four maker-size cups, and the Amazon UK listing matches the clear plastic variant. It can sit over a suitably sized mug or server. Plastic is light, hard to chip and takes little space in a cupboard. It also avoids the preheating burden of a thick ceramic dripper when you are making one morning cup.
Its large bottom opening does not set a fixed brew time. Grind, dose and how you pour all influence flow. That is useful for someone who wants to tune coffee, less appealing if you want the brewer to smooth out a hurried pour. Order genuine size-02 filters at the same time; do not assume a bare cone includes a packet. Choose for: a flexible low-cost starting point. Skip if: you want water held in the brewer without relying on technique.
Hario Switch 02: use immersion when the morning is busy
The SSD-200-B pairs a glass V60-style cone with a silicone base and a switch valve. Close it, add water and coffee, steep, then release into the cup. With the valve open it can behave more like a conventional V60. Hario UK gives a 200ml finished capacity for this model, so it is not the route for two large mugs from one brew. This is not a magic cup-quality upgrade over an ordinary V60. It changes the workflow. You gain a way to control contact time without continuously pouring, but add glass, a valve and more cleaning. Choose for: one-cup flexibility between percolation and immersion. Skip if: you mainly need a large batch or already like a plain cone.
Chemex Classic six-cup: brewer and serving vessel together
The six-cup CM-6A is a 30 US fl oz glass vessel, about 887ml by conversion, before coffee retention in the grounds. Chemex's “six cups” are not six large 300ml mugs. It looks at home on a table because the brewer is also the server, and its bonded papers are part of the intended filtration system. That paper is a continuing cost and a storage consideration, not a generic V60 substitute.
The brewer is also a single piece of glass with a wooden collar. Rinse and remove the filter carefully; follow Chemex's care instructions, especially around the collar.
