Manual brewing

Pour-over, cafetière, AeroPress, moka, cold brew and filter machines explained as practical routines rather than rituals to memorise.

Ceramic pour-over dripper, glass server, kettle and scales in a home kitchen.

Manual brewers are inexpensive, durable and easier to store than a machine. They do ask you to control the dose, grind and water, but that can be a three-minute habit rather than a new personality.

Start with a coffee-to-water ratio you can repeat. Then follow the cafetière method or pour-over method and change one variable at a time when the cup is off. No recipe is universal: beans, grinder and taste still matter.

Choosing between brewers? Compare AeroPress and cafetière for one-cup versus shared-pot work, or V60 and Chemex for paper-filter batch size and serving. For a household making two coffees at once, use the two-person setup guide.

Explore a different routine with moka-pot method, overnight cold brew or an upright AeroPress recipe. For pour-over equipment, compare V60 sizes, flat-bottom and cone drippers and paper versus metal filters. If you prefer a machine batch, glass versus thermal carafes can settle the serving choice.
