The exact 6769008 UK model has a 1.25L removable tank, programmable start and double-wall stainless jug. It uses 1x4 paper filters. Melitta says the machine switches off 15 minutes after brewing; that is normal because the jug, rather than a hotplate, holds the heat. Fill the tank and paper the evening before only if you are happy with that workflow and the coffee's freshness by morning.
The 10-cup claim uses small manufacturer cups. It does not mean ten 250ml mugs. A litre-plus batch makes more sense for two or more coffee drinkers or several servings across a work morning. The practical downside is a lid that takes more attention to clean than an open glass pot; pre-warming an insulated jug with hot water can also help when you make a smaller quantity. Choose for: a timed batch without a hotplate. Skip if: you mainly make one immediate mug.
When a glass machine is the better purchase
The Melitta Optima Timer makes a smaller nominal 1L batch with a glass jug and hotplate, and uses 102 papers rather than 1x4. It may be enough if one or two people drink the pot soon after brewing. The Moccamaster KBG Select's half/full-pot selector supports different batch sizes, although it lacks a timer and still uses a glass jug with warming plate. Both are deliberate contrasts, not thermal-carafe substitutes.
For a true insulated alternative at a higher equipment tier, Moccamaster's KBGT family has a thermal jug; check a specific UK-plug variant and seller before buying, rather than confusing it with the KBG Select. If you usually make 250–500ml, a manual V60 02 over a server may be a better-sized tool than any 1.25L machine.
Heat retention versus coffee quality
A thermal carafe slows heat loss, but temperature falls with time and a half-empty jug cools faster. The glass hotplate holds temperature at the cost of continuing heat exposure, which can change flavour over a long hold. Pour into cups when ready, or use a separate insulated flask if the machine you already own otherwise suits you. Buy the right paper for the chosen machine. Melitta 1x4 and 102 are distinct shapes/sizes even though both are sometimes called 'filter papers'; see our filter-paper sizes guide. A medium filter grind and measured coffee-to-water ratio are more valuable than a machine's 'aroma' dial at the first brew. Try 60g per litre as a baseline and adjust by taste.
